ICT Geelong (the Geelong Region ICT Cluster) has been engaged by Regional Development Australia and the G21 Regional Alliance to led a Digital Economy Plan for the region. The Plan, which is expected to take 3-4 months to complete, is designed to capture a snapshot of the level of digital adoption and digital capabilities of organisations as well as provide recommendations to ensure that the region is well positioned to take advantage of the NBN.
A survey of local businesses from all industries in the region will be conducted in mid-July to understand the current use of digital platforms and expected trends in digital adoption.
A summary of outcomes and recommendations from the Plan will be available in October 2013.
Geelong, Australia- Regional Cluster, ICT Geelong, has recently appointed local digital entrepreneur, Aamir Qutub, as its new General Manager. Mr Qutub takes over from Craig Hill who has led the Cluster since its establishment in 2009.
ICT Geelong is the representative voice and peak body of the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) industry in the Geelong region. Its foundation members are industry leaders from the private sector, experts from tertiary education institutions and community leaders from the public sector. ICT Geelong plays an important role in positioning the region to take advantage of IT infrastructure, entrepreneurship and skills development opportunities.
Chairman of ICT Geelong and CEO of Sky Software, Nick Stanley, made the announcement to the ICT Geelong Steering Group in December.
“There are many exciting opportunities and challenges ahead for ICT Geelong and the local IT Industry. Aamir has been a very active member of our IT community over the past 18 months and will prove a valued leader in this role.”
Mr Qutub founded digital consultancy, Enterprise Monkey, and has also established the Geelong Entrepreneurs Club to promote technology entrepreneurship in the region. He has also led a Digital Hub Plan, facilitated through the City of Greater Geelong, and been involved in the development of other projects including regional IT R&D and Commercialisation Plan with ICT Geelong.
